Kastelholman Linna
Sund - Ahvenanmaa
Welcome to Kastelholm and Åland’s only medieval castle, founded in the 1380’s. Kastelholm Castle had its historical heyday under the rule of Gustav Vasa and his sons, when Åland and Finland were a part of the Swedish empire. The castle was developed and built out in different phases until the 1630’s, when Åland was incorporated into Turku Castle County. After several fires, the castle deteriorated and was abandoned. Today it has been restored to a “living ruin”, open to visitors during the summer.
